CANSMART 2006
9th Cansmart Meeting
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP
on
SMART MATERIALS AND STRUCTURES
October 12-13, 2006
Toronto, Ontario, Canada
CanSmart , the Canadian Smart Materials and Structures
Group, is pleased to announce an International Workshop on Smart
Materials and Smart Structures and their Applications to be held
on 12 - 13 October 2006 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Since its inception in 1997, one of the Cansmart Group objectives
has been to promote the emerging technologies of smart materials
and structures in Canada and the world by organizing an annual meeting
on the subject. After three national and two Canada-US workshops,
the first International Workshop held in 2003
was so very well received that we have now been decided to host an
annual International Meeting on Smart Materials and Structures.
Cansmart 2006 is planned to provide the International Community with
a forum to interact, network and explore the potential of possible
collaborations on projects of mutual interest. Special sessions featuring
invited representatives from around the world will present the current
outlook on smart materials, structures and technologies in special sessions.
As in the previous workshops, the main objectives are
to:
- Provide a forum to encourage interaction in the fields of smart
materials and structures.
- Present the fundamentals of this fast growing multi-disciplinary
technology and its potential impact.
- Outline the technical and technological challenges of smart materials,
smart structures and smart systems.
- Make the industrial and engineering communities aware of the possibilities
and potential advantages of smart technologies.
The topics for the workshop will include, but not be limited to, the
following:
- Smart Materials and Composites; Attached or Embedded Smart Sensors
and Actuators;
- Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems and Devices;
- Active Materials (Piezoelectric, SMA, etc);
- Structural Vibration Suppression and Smart Damping Techniques;
- Intelligent Processing of Materials;
- Structural Health Monitoring;
- NDE of Materials & Structures
- Industrial and Commercial Applications, Space, Aerospace, Automation,
Medicine, Civil Engineering and Marine industries.
The meeting will take place in Toronto, Ontario on
Thursday and Friday, October 12 and 13, 2006. The workshop will include
the special sessions outlined above and technical sessions with oral
and poster presentations concurrent with a two-day exhibit.
You are invited to present your latest research, development or
application at this meeting. All authors are encouraged to put up
a poster to encourage networking. The subject matter may cover any
aspect ranging from nanomaterials to smart structures and their applications.
Poster sessions will be held throughout the meeting. Refreshments will be served
and attendees will have the opportunity to view the poster papers and have discussions
with the authors.
